Reminder.....Wednesday, May 23 is our school's May crowning at 7:00 p.m. in our church.  This is a mandatory school Mass, and the students attend in full uniform.

Thank you to all of you who contributed to our beautiful basket for the scholarship luncheon.

When the children have line paper in their folders, they are to write a story for their homework assignment that day using at least 5 of their spelling words.  We notice that some of the students are still writing sentences.

We have completed Theme 8 in our Reading Program.  This week, we will be reviewing Theme 8, as well as assessing the students in their fluency and writing skills.  There will be no new words introduced this week.

The first graders are learning an exciting new concept in Math - geometry!  Please log onto the Math link on our web site to first grade Math, Chapter 12, for your child to practice the geometry skills.

We hope all the moms can join us on Monday, May 14 for our annual Mother's Day celebration.  We will begin with Mass at 8:10, followed by a light breakfast and some classroom time with your child.  More information will follow this week.

There will be no Reading Club this Friday, May 11.

Thank you to everyone who donated money for our "spa basket". If you could please send in your donation by the end of this week, it will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Our Star of the Week is Dion!  Daniel is taking Our Lady of Fatima home this week.

We are looking forward to our field trip tomorrow to Jon's Market.  We plan to leave school at 8:15, arriving around 8:30. The children will tour the store and pick out their morning snack.  The manager will have a register open for our class to line up and pay for their snacks.  Our goal is to be back at school no later than 10:00 and at that time the children can enjoy the delicious snack they bought!  Thank you to the following student's parents who will walk with us and help ensure a safe walk:  Madison, Dion, Alyssa, Sebastien H., Glenn, Emma, Sebastian C., Daniel, Trinity, Joel, Laura, and Denisse.  With this number of parents, we almost have a one-on-one ratio of student to parent, which will be a big help as we walk. We are excited about the first graders practicing what they learned in Math and applying it to a "real Life" situation!

As part of our "Good Touch, Bad Touch" lesson, the children are bringing home a booklet called "Who Am I?"  Please help them complete it and return it tomorrow.  If you opted out of our "Good Touch, Bad Touch" lesson, your child went to another classroom for the duration of the lesson, but the booklet we are sending home is an assignment we would like for everyone to complete.

Please see "Language Arts" for our new words for this week.

Welcome back!  We hope all of you had a very Happy Easter!  We are happy to be back and it is time to get busy again in our first grade classroom!

Please see "Language Arts" for our new Spelling and High Frequency words for this week.  We have started Theme 8 in our Reading Program.

Thank you to all the first graders who brought back their Lenten Good Deeds Chart.  If it has not been brought in, it must be turned in as soon as possible, however, the grade points will go down for each day that it is late.

Our Star of the Week is Nina!  Keiley is taking home Our Lady of Fatima this week!

This will be a busy and fun week in first grade!  Reminder...school dismisses at 12:15 on Wednesday, April 4 for the start of our spring break; after school care will be available.  We resume school on Monday, April 16, at which time the Lenten Good Deeds Chart is due.

If your child did not bring in 2 hard boiled eggs today, they can still bring them in tomorrow.  Thank you to all of you who brought in Easter candy, non-perishable goods, baby wipes, and paper towels.  Your generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated.

Since this is a short week, we will not be opening up Theme 8 in our Reading Program, so there will not be any new Spelling or High Frequency words this week.  We will continue with our program when we return from Easter break.  This week, we will be learning all about Holy Week and doing some fun Easter projects.

Our Star of the Week is Trinity!  Mariana is taking Our Lady of Fatima home!

We would like to take this time to wish all of you a very Happy Easter, and we hope you can enjoy the holiday with family and friends.  Thank you for all that you do for our classroom.

Sincerely,

The first graders are bringing home their "Rainforest Resident Research Report" that they have worked on in class.  They will be doing an oral presentation on this report on Friday,  March 30.  They may keep the report at home to practice their presentation, but it must be brought back on Friday.  They will be able to refer to it while presenting.

The children are bringing home their mini rain forests today.  They all did an outstanding job, and it was fun and interesting to observe them!

Please see "Language Arts" for our new words for this week.

Our Star of the Week is Madison!  Daniel takes home Our Lady of Fatima this week!

We will not be introducing new words this week, due to the fact that this is a short week (reminder....school is closed Friday for a teacher in-service); and there will be no homework assigned tomorrow night due to the Science Fair.  We hope that you will be able to go to the Science Fair, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall.  Come see all of the first graders'  beautiful rain forests!  You will be amazed at all the research they have been doing!
Please see "Language Arts" for exciting activities for the students to do at home.  Follow the prompts listed.
This will give them a head start on our story next week ,"If You Give A Pig A Pancake".
Also, please see our "Math" section for information for the week.
Ask your child about the leprechauns who visited our classroom over the weekend!

    Mrs. De La Cruz

I am excited to begin a new school year at St. Elisabeth.  This is my home Parish and I have taught here for 19 years. In addition to being a teacher here, I am also the Vice Principal and a proud parent.  All four of my own children have attended St. Elisabeth School. Teaching is my passion and my vocation.  I have experience teaching  Kindergarten, First grade and Second grade. I also teach English as a Second HLanguage (ESL) to adult students at Los Angeles Mission College. This year is a new journey that I look forward to sharing with the first grade.
